Hoyo de Monterrey is a great Cuban cigar brand. Their cigars are light and easy to smoke, but don’t let that deter you because they still have a lot of rich tastes. At the age of 13, Don Jose Gener y Batet travelled from Spain to Cuba in 1831. He learned everything there was to know about cultivating and manufacturing tobacco for cigars while working on his uncle’s tobacco plantation in Vuelta Abajo. Twenty years later, Don Jose created his own brand, “La Escepcion.”He subsequently used the proceeds from his new plant in Havana to buy one of the best farmlands in Vuelta Abajo and registered the name Hoyo de Monterrey, which translates to “the hole of the Monterrey.” By the time Don Jose Gener died in 1900, his cigar brand was among the most well-known in Cuba, and it was particularly well-liked in Australia.
